Today I have prepared for you a summary of our trip in Berlin.
We´ve decided with my friends to spend a weekend in Berlin. We went there by car and the most of our journey went fast thanks to made-up games. We arrived to Berlin at night, so we´ve just unpacked our luggage and went to bed. The programme for the next two days was really filled with different activities. We had a wake-up call at seven o’clock and after the breakfast went to the city center. Fortunately, I made up my mind and took warmer jacket instead of the coat I wanted at first. It was a sunny weather though very chilly with temperatures around zero. Our first stop was a part of the the Berlin Wall, namely The East Side Gallery . This is International Freedom Monument that consists of paintings directly painted on the Berlin Wall. To see the wall in this form was a powerful experience for me. I was moved and horrified by its height and massiveness as well as how the people must have suffered because of it. On the other hand, colorful paintings gave the wall enormous energy with the message of freedom to the world. We should be really thankful for the ordinary things that we might take for granted and do not realise its value. The next stop was Checkpoint Charlie – the border crossing between the US sector and the territory of the GDR. If you do not have a tour guide and you want to learn more about the history of the Cold War, there you can find all the information written in brief. After a delicious lunch in Vietnamese restaurant, we continued our tour to Berliner Cathedral Church whose architecture does not fit into the East German surroudings at all. You can still find there visible remainders of the Communist era. We stopped as well in amazing Rausch Schokoladenhouse to recharge the energy. It looks like in fairy tale out there and it´s been the best chocolate I´ve ever had.
So if you are in Berlin, this place must be on your list. At the end of the day, we went shopping to Primark– it was like always, total madness and we could not miss it. The next day we´ve started with a free walking tour – we admired what you should see in Berlin with a tour guide. Beside monuments that we saw the previous day, we´ve seen underground bunkers complex, where Adolf Hitler spent the last months of his life. From there we went to the Jewish Museum and continued to the Brandenburg Gate. After the tour, we stopped at Potsdamer Platz to have a lunch, which is the example of West Berlin in its most modern way. There we enjoyed the first year’s Christmas gluhwein and then went again shopping to Primark.
